This month in our book club for ages 13-18, we’re reading The Giver by Lois Lowry

Book description: A young boy called Jonas lives in a society free of crime and sadness. At the age of 12, children are assigned their jobs, which they will train for and do for the rest of their lives. Citizens are not given freedom or choice – their jobs, spouses, and children are all decided for them. Without choice, the elders of the society believe they can prevent negative elements of life, such as war and poverty. When Jonas is assigned the job of Giver, the world he knows is drastically changed.
