Youth Services Specialist (Part-Time)

Position Summary

The Youth Services Specialist is a part-time position that primarily supports library services for tweens and teens ages 11–18. This position will provide dynamic programming, welcoming customer service, and energetic youth engagement. The position plans and presents programs, facilitates monthly tween and teen book clubs, assists with Summer Reading activities, and supports the Youth Services Coordinator with outreach and special events. The successful candidate will help create a welcoming and enticing environment that encourages literacy, learning, creativity, and positive youth development.

Core Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead programs for ages 12–18.
  • Assist with programing for ages 6-11.
  • Facilitate a monthly Youth Book Club (ages 11–13).
  • Facilitate a monthly Teen Book Club (ages 14–18).
  • Work with teen volunteers.
  • Assist with Summer Reading Program activities and special events.
  • Prepare program materials, supplies, and activity spaces.
  • Set up and clean up for programs and events.
  • Maintain attendance records and program statistics.
  • Provide customer service and basic technology assistance to patrons.
  • Assist the Youth Services Coordinator with outreach and systemwide projects.
  • Promote programs through displays, flyers, and direct patron interaction.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Experience working with tweens and teens in a library, school, recreation program, camp, after-school program, or similar youth-serving setting.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to lift 25lbs
  • Proficiency with computers and basic office software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience planning and leading programs for youth ages 12–18.
  • Experience facilitating discussions, clubs, workshops, or educational activities.
  • Knowledge of middle-grade and young adult literature and current youth interests.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and creating welcoming environments for youth. Pay is $17.51 hourly. This is about 20 hour a week position with paid holidays and PTO.
