Story Time: Introduction to Japanese
1303 West Third Street
Farmville
VA 23901

A volunteer who is a native Japanese speaker will lead families through a traditional story time – in Japanese! This exciting program will give children an opportunity to hear a new language in a familiar setting and practice saying basic Japanese words. Enjoy a new version of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and an activity together.
This is not a drop-off program for children. This program is designed for caregivers with children ages 0-7 to participate together.
The benefits of learning a second language from a young age are remarkable. In addition to supporting a young child’s natural curiosity and empathy, hearing people speak other languages widens their view of the world. Young children are not afraid of making mistakes when learning new skills, and mastering new words (in any language) boosts their confidence in communicating. As the national campaign Lead with Languages describes, “learning a second language boosts problem-solving, critical-thinking, and listening skills, in addition to improving memory, concentration, and the ability to multitask.”
